Grooverider & DJ Ron - Live At Sunday Roast - 16th August 1992

Another tape from a sound desk and this time from the seminal London event Roast. The few
that have surfaced online from Roast from these early years (1991 and 1992) all seem to be
unofficial copies like this.

There also seems by 1992 a marked style that the DJ's selected tunes for Roast by, opting for
far fewer happy and piano based tunes which separated them from some of the other big
events of the time. This was basically proto jungle with tunes that concentrated heavily on
the drums and basslines going down the best. Add in a ragga vocal and you were laughing.

The Grooverider set here contains the first dated play i can find for Metalheads - Kemistry so
it would have been pretty much fresh of the (dubplate) press from Goldie.

The DJ Ron set showcases his close links with Rebel MC with a couple of dubplates that i've
only ever heard DJ Ron sets from this era so probably exclusive to him. This shows that mid
1992 was showing the signs of dubplate culture so prevalent to jungle and drum and bass in
years to come.
